It's Official, Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC)

Sacred Heart School – Jesuits or Sacred Heart School of the Society of Jesus was my High School Alma mater. The name has been changed at first from Sacred Heart School for Boys to Sacred Heart School – Jesuits and now finally after so many years 'Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu'.

The school was built in 1955 along Gen. Maxilom Ave., Cebu City. It was primarily an all boys school hence, Sacred Heart School for Boys. It opened its doors to female students on 1998 only up to a few levels in grade school, which prompted again the change of name to Sacred Heart School – Jesuits or Sacred Heart School of the Society of Jesus. Then in 2006, the Sacred Heart School produced its first batch of graduates with female students (I was in the 2nd to the last batch of All boys Graduates). The school then transferred to a much bigger campus in Canduman, Mandaue City, Cebu in 2007.

Finally on Thursday March 4, 2010, the Board of Trustees of the Sacred Heart School unanimously approved the changing of the school's name to Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu.

The revised name brings together the cherished tradition of Sacred Heart School - Jesuit and the Jesuit brand of education more popularly known in the Philippines as the Ateneo educational system. Both Sacred Heart School - Jesuit and the Ateneo share the ideals of Magis - the formation of men and women for others AMDG (Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam/For the Greater Glory of God). Henceforth, our students will be known as ATENEO HEARTERS a.k.a. Ateneans.

According to the School President, Fr. Manny A. Uy, S.J., the rich legacy of both Sacred Heart School - Jesuit and the Ateneo will propel SACRED HEART SCHOOL - ATENEO de CEBU to aim for greater heights and will deepen our commitment to live out the school's mission and vision of forming and evangelizing men and women for others with a passion for excellence and service especially among the Chinese-Filipino community.

There is also Sacred Heart School for Girls which has also changed names to Sacred Heart School - Hijas de Jesus which is a different school by the way.
