Ohhhsam! Make Your Own Havaianas Cebu 2010

I had the chance to be invited to the launch of Make Your Own Havaianas 2010 at SM City Cebu. Make Your Own Havaianas (MYOH) is an annual event where you take full control on how your pair of Havaianas flip-flops would look like. You can choose from a palette of soles and straps, and set of accessories.

This year, Havaianas celebrates 5 years of chic and colorful customization. Aside from the extensive color palette of Top and Slim soles and straps, Havaianas fans can choose from stylish new options—from silver letter pins (to form your name or a word) and crystal studded pins to jelly, fluorescent and glow-in-the-dark Top straps.

You can also select a Philippine-designed MYOH commemorative sole and pin as mementos of this historic event. With all these options, you’ll never run out of creative ideas for your own personal version of the word’s favorite flip flops.

The area was opened to the invited VIP and media guests at 4pm and upon entrance, we were provided with a checklist to help us note our choices. It took me quite some time to decide on the color combination of my flip-flops. There was a roulette-type of strap-sole simulator to determine the color combinations or the like design blending will match one's taste

I'm not really a flip-flop person nor am I choosy, so I chose the black MYOH@5 commemorative sole & pin. And I gave it to my sister when I got home! :D (The media and VIPs were allotted 1 complimentary pair with 2 pins so I paid nothing for mom’s pair of Havaianas!) Whew!

Punching pins into the straps is usually the most tedious and time consuming part of the process. The assembler will ask you where and how you’d like your pins to be punched. The pin locks this year are quite inconsistent as some of them do not match the pins thus causing delays. As I was observing the process I can't help but think of a much faster way to do it being and Industrial Engineer and all, but I thought, to the normal person, getting to watch how there flip flops were assembled is already a unique experience!

Special thanks to Leanne Florendo and Aimil Sarmiento of A.L. Amizade Marketing Inc., the exclusive sub-distributor of Havaianas in Central and Eastern Visayas!

‘Til the next MYOH and may it be another Ohhhsam! Make Your Own Havaianas Cebu 2010
