Good Advice Project: Mariejo Sevilla #1
The first feature of this 365 Good Advice Project: Coffee Talks/Dates is from Mariejo Sevilla, Law Student, and Human Rights Advocate (insert my special titles for her here: hero/raider/speaker/adis2imba2person). Thank you very much for your time and permission to sharing your good advice!
“Learn to Focus your energy”
Our youth of today has one of the shortest attention span, perhaps due to the digital age that we have been exposed to. When you are young (our generation), we are not only attracted but also want to do so many things. The same scenario is repeated even in youth engaging in volunteering and advocacies.
With that, we must not forget to enjoy and focus on a few important things; in this case, 'good things.' But then the next challenge that arises is keeping or holding on to that focus which is also a challenge to me.
For my part, I want to be a lawyer, however, I also don't want to spend 5 years of my life staring down words, running through books. I don't want my growth as a person to be limited or lost in the time that I studied law (travel, exposed to the application of law - theory vs. practice, human rights advocacy ..etc..). Yes, people may say that we don't get all the things that we want. Well, that's what other people say and If I don't try, I would not know what is possible. However, this varies and depends from person to person. But my goal is to balance these 2 things I have mentioned.
Most people haven't spent time understanding what actually matters to them and they keep on reaching for something that doesn't mean anything to them but they are doing it because everyone said they are supposed to. If we do not know what we are looking for, we will never be able to find it. But hey, that's just me!
Do something that matters to you, and make an impact that only you can make. If we learn to relentlessly focus, I think anything Good is possible!
