How GCash became our life saver during challenging times

The pandemic has brought about many challenges, but it has also given rise to innovative solutions that make our daily lives easier. With the lockdown in place, many people were unable to go out and shop like they used to. But for those who were able to adapt, GCash proved to be a lifesaver.

In 2020, my sister got laid off and I was working on a project-based basis and our household finances was very unstable. How bad was it? We even sold our Toyota Revo car during that time. We also got some 'Ayuda' from the government but also from our extended family members (My mother is the eldest of 9). And moving money was very much convenient with GCash.

This is especially useful for those who are unable to leave their homes or who are concerned about exposure to the virus. Food delivery became the norm compared to eating out and the same is true with online shopping. With GCash, you no longer have to worry about carrying cash around or exposing yourself to unnecessary risk. It’s a safe, secure, and convenient way to manage your finances during those trying times.

We got stabilized by 2021 and that's the time my sister also got a job and was now shopping online like crazy. I too spent some money online to celebrate and splurged to have survived the so-called global pandemic.

Of course, reality will always punch you in the face. The situation repeated itself when 'Bagyong Odette' suddenly surged into a Category 5 storm in a few hours and hit Cebu hard. We did not have electricity for one and half months and all sorts of life's necessities were hit (banking, power, food, water).

People had money, they just could not access it. Long lines were common. From water pumping, fuel stations, and groceries, to even ATMs!! When signal came back, people started sharing information and one of the alternative ways to move money was through GCash. This is so since the banks were closed and the ATMs were intermittent due to limited electricity and signal (depending on the area).

Once again, GCash to the rescue! Enabled me and my sister to access money so we could go to Cebu city to work on a co-working space, for her to be able to do online interviews that were already scheduled, and for me to work online once again.

I can write more about this but here's a video that myself, my cousin and my sister recorded sharing our GCash story just like the recent publishing of #GCashStories!!

I am also hearing that there will be more features in GCash for loans and investments. I am very excited for this to turn my GCash interface into a one-stop shop for not only insurance, loans, and savings but also for investments (in the stock market) as well!

In conclusion, GCash has been a lifesaver for me as a middle-class Filipino during the pandemic. Its user-friendly interface, safe and secure transactions, and various rewards and discounts make it a convenient and innovative solution for managing our finances.

GCash has absolutely changed the way we work, live, and play! If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend that you do. It will make your life easier during day-to-day and as well as challenging times.
