Corazon Aquino: Icon & Champion of Democracy

Corazon Aquino was a world-renowned advocate of democracy, peace, women's empowerment, and a religious & prayerful christian. She served as the 11th and first female president of the Philippines from 1986 to 1992 and of Asia. She died of colon cancer last August 1, 2009 at the age of 76.

Corazon Aquino once united us as a people in Life, and now in death. It is true that we do not really know the value of something, until we have lost it. Even though I am not of the People Power one (1) generation, such achievement of that time has paved the way for a democratic life that I am enjoying and living today, and for that I express my gratitude to our great leader and a Filipino, Corazon Aquino.

Cory Aquino was not just an inspiration to the Filipinos but also of the whole world through her promotion and defense of Democracy. Her death is also timely, in that people who became apathetic are now re-learning or caring for our democratic life and this is good for the upcoming 2010 presidential Philippine Elections.

We must not only grief but also celebrate her life and we must uphold her hopes, dreams and live her principles, we owe her that much. Once again, "Thank You" Corazon Aquino for all that you have done for the Filipino People.
