Lupang Hinirang / Yutang Tabunon / Chosen Land Lyrics

I just decided to blog about this because I was some what influenced with our 70+ Year Old IE Chair who has spearheaded a "Cultural Revitalization" in our IE Department. IE students are now required to Learn the "IE Hymn" (Yes, We have one!), Our School Hymn and the Bisaya/Visayan Version of our Philippine National Anthem: Lupang Hinarang (Tagalog), Nasudnong Awit (Bisaya - mau man to suwat sa blackboard! whahaha).

Also a little info on its history and the like. Lupang Hinirang means "Chosen Land" in Filipino. Jose Palma's Filipinas was translated into Filipino by Julian Cruz Balmaceda, Ildefonso Santos, and Francisco Caballo. Minor revisions were made in 1962 and the lyrics were still used today. The English version starting with the phrase "Land of the morning" is not a direct translation of the Spanish original, and so differs in meaning from both the original and the Tagalog translations, while keeping its context intact somewhat.

Filipino (Tagalog)

Bayang Magiliw
Perlas ng Silanganan,
Alab ng puso
Sa dibdib mo'y buhay.
Lupang hinirang,
Duyan ka ng magiting,
Sa manlulupig,
'Di ka pasisiil.
Sa dagat at bundok,
Sa simoy at sa langit mong bughaw,
May dilag ang tula at awit
Sa paglayang minamahal.
Ang kislap ng watawat mo'y
Tagumpay na nagniningning,
Ang bituin at araw niya
Kailan pa ma'y 'di magdidilim.
Lupa ng araw, ng luwalhati't pagsinta,
Buhay ay langit sa piling mo;
Aming ligaya, na 'pag may mang-aapi
Ang mamatay nang dahil sa 'yo.
Español

Tierra adorada
Hija del sol de Oriente,
Su fuego ardiente
en ti latiendo está.
Patria de Amores
Del heroísmo cuna,
Los invasores
No te hollarán jamás.
En tu azul cielo, entus auras,
En tus montes, en tu mar,
Esplende y late el poema
De tu Amada Libertad
Tú pabellón
Que en las lides
La Victoria iluminó,
No verá nunca apagados
Sus estrellas y su sol.
Tierra de dichas, del sol y de amores,
Den tu regazo dulce es vivir.
Es una Gloria para tus hijos,
Cuando te ofended, por ti morir.
Cebuano (Bisaya)
Yutang tabunon
Mutya nga masilakon
Putling bahandi
Amo kang gimahal
Mithing gisimba
Yuta s'mga bayani
Sa manglulupig
Among panalipdan
Ang mga bungtod mo ug lapyahan
Ang langit mong bughaw
Nagahulad sa awit, lamdag sa
Kaliwat tang gawas
Silaw sa adlaw ug bitoon
Sa nasudnong bandila
Nagatimaan nga buhion ta
Hugpong nga di maluba
Yutang maanyag, duyan ka sa pagmahal
Landong sa langit ang dughaan mo;
Pakatam-isom sa anak mong nagtukaw
Kon mamatay man sa ngalan mo.

English
Land of the morning,
Child of the sun returning,
With fervor burning
Thee do our souls adore.
Land dear and holy,
Cradle of noble heroes.
Ne'er shall invaders
Trample thy sacred shore.
Ever within thy skies and through thy clouds,
And o'er thy hills and sea,
Do we behold the radiance
Feel the throb of glorious liberty.
Thy banner, dear to all our hearts
Its sun and star alight
O never shall its shining field
Be dimmed by tyrants might.
Beautiful land of love, O land of light,
In thine embrace 'tis rapture to lie;
But it is glory ever, when thou art wronged
for us, thy sons to suffer and die.

Goodness I still got my notes back from High School about this! Of course there are other translations in other Filipino Languages such as Waray, Ilokano and the like but it would already make this post too long...Enjoy, Cheers!
