Nutrition, Minions & Bababababananas

So it's that time of the year, I mean it's July and Nutrition Month is being celebrated by DOH-National Nutrition Council of the Philippines. So I was thinking as to how to gain some awareness and attention for it. And I ended up with the answer, BANANAS wherein I encountered the banana song sung by the minions from the movie despicable me.

You see, to raise awareness on the need for more action in addressing hunger as part of the Philippine commitment to the UN MDG Goal 1 – eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, the National Nutrition Council focuses on Hunger for the 39th year commemoration of Nutrition Month this July with the theme “Gutom at malnutrisyon, sama-sama nating wakasan!”.

The month-long observance will be kicked off with a Holy Mass scheduled today (July 1, 2013) at 1:00pm at the San Pedro Calungsod Chapel, SRP, Cebu City.

Following the mass would be a “Hunger Caravan” at Mambaling Sports Complex, Gotchan, Mambaling, Cebu City where government agencies including the DOH-NNC, DA, DSWD and TESDA will share with Pantawid beneficiaries some actions to address hunger and malnutrition. From Mambaling, the contingent will pass through N. Bacalso Avenue to P. del Rosario Street to Imus Avenue to General Maxilom Avenue to Gorordo Avenue to Ayala Road to Cardinal Rosales Avenue to Mindanao Avenue and finally enter Ayala Center Cebu. The caravan is done to call the attention of the public on the issue on hunger.

A Launching Program would follow at the Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu at 5:00pm. This launching program is done to open formally the 2013 Nutrition Month where a ceremonial event to end hunger and malnutrition will happen. Capping the day long activities is “Zumba, a stride for good health and end hunger and malnutrition” at 6:00pm. The Zumba is done to call the attention of the zumba enthusiasts and the public on the issue on hunger and promote healthy lifestyle.

I've been converting my profile pic and cover photo in facebook to call attention to the health of our environment and of our own as well for weeks now, hopefully my network has learned a thing or two about the importance of caring for our environment and how it's health is linked to our own; also putting in some fruit facts in relation to nutrition as well. See below for links to them:

In my own way, the mini campaign I've done is to increase awareness on hunger issues and actions to mitigate hunger and malnutrition, encourage stakeholders to contribute to addressing hunger issues and advocate for stronger political action to end hunger.
