Mga Kababayan ko...

Mga kababayan ko is a song by the late great francis magalona also known as "Francis M.". To the Philippines, he was a lot of things, a rapper, actor, photographer, host, entrepreneur, a family man and a lot more. But to me he is one of the few "FILIPINOS" in the Philippines.

"Poor Filipinos want to be American, and the rich ones all want to be Spaniards. And Nobody simply wants to be Filipino.” - Barth Suretsky

French say about the Filipinos: "that we are the only race in the whole world, that is CRUEL to our own kind."

Here is his song, a work of art, our song:
Mga Kababayab ko...

Mga kababayan ko
Dapat lang malaman nyo
Bilib ako sa kulay ko
Ako ay pilipino
Kung may itim or may puti
Mayron naman kayumangi
Isipin mo na kaya mong
Abutin ang yung minimithi

Dapat magsumikap para tayoy di maghirap
Ang trabaho mo pagbutihin mo
Dahil pag gusto mo ay kaya mo
Kung kaya mo ay kaya nya
At kaya nating dalawa

Magaling ang atin
Yan ang laging iisipin
Pag asensyo mararating
Kung handa kang tiisin
Ang hirap at pagod sa problema
Wag kang malunod

(Repeat chorus)

Lahat tayoy magkakapatid
Anong mang mali ay ituwid
Magdasal sa diyos maykapal
Maging banal at wag hangal
Itong tula ay alay ko
Sa inyo at sa buong mundo

(Repeat chorus)

Rizal wrote more than a hundred years ago:
“…Alas! The whole misfortune of the present Filipinos consists in that they have become only half-way brutes. The Filipino is convinced that to get happiness it is necessary for him to lay aside his dignity as a rational creature, to attend mass, to believe what is told him, to pay what is demanded of him, to pay and forever to pay; to work, suffer, and be silent, without aspiring anything, without aspiring to know or even to understand Spanish, without separating himself from his carabao, as the priests shamelessly say, without protesting against any injustice, against any arbitrary action, against an assault, against an insult; that is, NOT TO HAVE HEART, BRAIN, OR SPIRIT; a creature with arms and a purse of gold, there’s the ideal native!”
(The Indolence of the Filipinos)

Don’t we still fit this description made by Rizal more than a hundred years ago?
We can do in our own little way to be like Francis M., Taas nuo ang pagka Pilipino, Let us help each other (Sino bang magtutulungan patungo sa kaunlaran, kundi tayo-tayo rin?) Itaas at iwagayway ang bandera ng KAYUMANGI!!!!

  4. ako paborito na song kay kani jud:

So many faces, so many races
    Different voices, different choices
Some are mad, while others laugh
Some live alone with no better half
    Others grieve while others curse
And others mourn behind a big black hearse
Some are pure and some half-bred
Some are sober and some are wasted
Some are rich because of fate and
Some are poor with no food on their plate
Some stand out while others blend
Some are fat and stout while some are thin ... A tribute to Kiko

dira na base ang ako slogan sa ako blog.. Kaleidoscope of illusions.. so long Francis M!

  5. sad to say but it was really true that most of the Filipinos nowadays are trying to do anything just to hide their identity as a Filipino..but can't we just think correctly?because the fact is that we can't do anything about it..instead of wasting your time and money just to make your skin white and fairer and look more likely as a foreigner, why not use it for good..if everyone of us will just start doing what is need to be done, i know for sure that it will really make a strong impact to the improvement of our own country...

note: Filipino is not a race..it is nationality or a citizen i think..but we belong to the mongoloid race..the three races are just the caucasoid, mongoloid and the negroid..

  7. Hi, I'm a relative of Francis M and it was very nice dor you to use him as a good example here in your blog.

Very good observations and you support your argument well with Rizal's work. I was quite unaware of this quote of his but it is quite sad that we still haven't changed since he wrote that.

Kelan pa kaya tayo magpapalit ng ugali? Sigh.
