My 1st Brigada Eskwela (Community School Brigade)

The 1st Brigada Eskwela (Community School Brigade) that I joined was with Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), together with schools and volunteers, held in two schools at Tuburan, north of Cebu, last April 21. We were stationed at the Bagasawe Elementary School, Tuburan, Cebu.

Other groups during the one-day Community School Brigade activity gathered nearly 400 volunteers from the local government of Tuburan, parents, teachers, 78th Infantry Batallion, RAFI-Microfinance Balamban Branch, and the Tuburan community. RAFI also mobilized its Young Minds Academy alumni (I'm HERE! :D), together with youth from the Barangay Luz Youth Coalition.

We had stop overs back and forth in Balamban :D

Rest and LUNCH with Barangay Luz SK and youth volunteers!
when the sun was so hot after lunch, the big guns were brought out to continue the work
That was in April and in June, I joined another one, this time it was in Cebu City specifically in Barangay Luz elementary and high school. This time, I was joining together with GK Lorega youth and Team GK Cebu  Volunteers including my sister and cousin. There were also lots of volunteers from the Cebu City hall departments and barangay luz officials during the Brigada Eskwela as well.

About Brigada Eskwela:
The Brigada Eskwela is an annual program of the Department of Education (DepED Order 24., s. 2008, Appendix A). The School Community Brigade is a collaborative endeavor that seeks to involve various stakeholders from different organizations, volunteers, and other interested individuals in improving school facilities to provide students a better learning environment. Through the School Community Brigade, everybody is given a chance to cooperate and share the bayanihan spirit to the community and students.

Activities during the SCB include cleanups, painting of classroom furniture and school buildings, minor repairs, and setting up of an Indigenous Tree Nursery or vegetable garden. Other needs may vary as well, such as classroom clean up, drainage maintenance, de-clogging or clean up and many more!

rest finally, and picture2!!! Clap2 and Patting our backs for a job well done!

Education is the responsibility of everybody. While government is tasked to provide free and quality education to every Filipino child and youth, the community where they grow is an important stakeholder in their education. I hope that through this post, you will be interested in not just rendering service but as well as spreading the word to work with your community, like this activity, it just took half, or whole day to do and of course you can always bring friends and family, your small acts can be a ripple effect for the development of our community and country!

After years and years in my bucket list, I have finally joined in on not just one but two School Brigades! The youth indeed cares for the betterment of our country!
